If life was so simple..

So, you say in order to be happy, you need a full bank account with the money you earn doing your dream job, it should take you one diet to look like a Victoria’s Secret model and the first guy you date should be the love of your life?

No way..

Take that pressure off yourself, because life is never so simple.

Nor should it be, and that is okay!

And even if you may have this simple life, are you truly happy?

Life is not meant to be simple, it’s not meant to be perfect. We are all meant to have our ups and downs, to learn through our hardships, and embrace the light times. And each time life gets more complicated, and fills you up with anxiety, each time you get through those times, you will feel a little more confident. Hey, you made it out!

I have believed that if I find the perfect job and make good money, I will be fullfilled. So I had one job, I had a second job and then I had the next one, thinking “oh but this is it now”, and I might have been happy and motivated in the beginning but after a while I always had that realization that I haven’t arrived where I wanted to yet. So I had these moments where I kind of doubted myself if I would ever find THE job. Is something wrong with me? Would I ever be content with what I am doing?

Until I realized..

I don’t need THE job. It’s okay to change. Don’t need to identify oneself through your work, or at least not through one single job. With each workplace you learn, you evolve, and if it doesn’t feel right anymore, you move on. And there is nothing wrong with that. But always keep in mind, that any job really has also its cons, and again life isn’t so simple and nothing is perfect.

Now what I want to come back to, is thinking of fullfillment and happiness as a destination. That you have to reach a certain goal to be happy and to feel like you have made it in life. With that type of thinking, this not so simple life becomes even more difficult, or even miserable. If your head is in the future with that perfect ideal version of yourself you imagine, you totally neglect the moment you actually live in, you neglect the current version of yourself and you compare yourself with an ideal that is not even real, or yet might not even happen and you end up disappointed!

So just stop for a second, forget about the past, don’t think of the future.. what makes you happy right now? What are you grateful for right now? What is happening with you right now? If you met yourself now, would you like yourself? Don’t live for the perfect future that could possibly make you happy, live for the moment now. Be happy now. Enjoy every second.

Sometimes tomorrow isn’t promised.

But if life was so simple, that would be easier said than done. “Just be happy” is one of the stupidest sentences to hear when you are going through a tough time and feel quite the opposite of happy. At times, where you might be on your own and have no one to drag you out of the mud, or you feel disconnected from the world and nothing seems to go right anymore, it’s important to not let the bad take over you, take over your life, your body. You still have yourself here, and it’s not the time to lose yourself, but to roll up your sleeves, see the situation for what it is and work on it. Can’t recognize what’s making you unhappy? Meditate on it and write down your emotions. And if you do know, don’t dwell on it, but change it. And if you can’t do it on your own, find someone you’d trust to help you in these situations.

For every problem, there is at least one solution, even if at the moment it doesn’t seem like that.
But no problem will disappear into thin air, and solutions will not be whispered into your ear.

I had to learn this in the past years and this has become my mantra anytime life puts another obstacle in my way. By now, I trust myself that whatever issue comes my way I will solve it. To accept life exactly as it is, and appreciate every part of it, the bad and the good. I am the creator of my life and my happiness.

And you are too. 😊
