Late Summer Feeling

When the world gets calmer,

and the sun less brighter,

and we are somewhere inbetween summer and fall,

we start to reminisc about the memories we created in the past few weeks.

We think about the emotions we felt,

and the people we’ve encountered.

Was it a new friend or an old acquaintance?

Could it have been the big love or just a summer fling?

Questions and memories fighting over dominance in your mind,

while you’re sitting at your favorite café, having just orderer a coffee,

watching people walk by.

If you listen closely, everything has become a bit quieter.

The children are at school, adults back at work,

and strangers have returned to their homes.

Nostalgic memories reoccuring in your mind,

remember how it used to feel,

preparing your favorite new outfit for the first day back at school?

Take the first sip and inhale deeply.

Enjoy the fresh breeze that cools down the sunburn you got

because you forgot to use sunprotection the last time you went to the pool.

Or maybe still from the vacation you took this summer?

There are new pictures you collected,

new additions to this year’s photo album.

Pictures of your friends and family,

bikinis and beaches,

mountains and the sunsets.

Why does it feel as though it’s over?

As if there won’t be another summer?

Is it the city that starts to feel cold and stays cold for a while?

The scary upcoming winter blues

and the fear of losing all these warm feelings you had these days?

What if the people that made this summer so memorable,

won’t be here for the next one?

Inhale – Exhale.

But when you look around you might not be alone with these thoughts.

You see people trying to make the best out of this late summer,

spending as much time outdoors

and drinking their favorite cocktails they discovered this summer.

As if everyone is in fear that these would be the last rays of sunshine they would see.

But the truth is,

it might get colder but the sun will keep on shining.

The people who matter will stay close to you.

And the summer will return.
